Education for Sustainability. At no time has the public debate about sustainable developement been more intense and wide ranging. Developing a sustainable at school INSET The government would like every school to be a sustainable school, a place which models good practice for young people and their communities and that builds sustainability into the learning experience of every child. The session will develop a thorough understanding of the concept of sustainability, of what constitutes a sustainable school and how both can be developed into a whole school approach. Using the Sustainable Schools 8 doorways as a guide the workshop will explore food and drink, travel, purchasing and waste, energy and water, buildings and grounds, the global dimension and inclusion and participation. With many practical strategies and examples on offer participants, will gain confidence to recognise and evaluate the impact of what their school is already doing and develop the knowledge and inspiration to plan and evaluate through an improved level of sustainability, across curriculum campus and community of their school. Learning for a sustainable future – KS2 workshop Learning for a sustainable future will help children to explore and understand the concepts around sustainability and give them the opportunity to really make a difference both at school and at home. Children can participate in a variety of activities covering many aspects of sustainable development including: Completing energy audits, locating the best place for a wind turbine, building solar boats, cooking in a solar oven, exploring insulation, building cob brick, working out food miles, exploring fair trade, cook on an open fire, creating scrap monsters, pollution and waste, water testing, surveying and harvesting, a climate for change, traffic and travel, bugs and biodiversity, setting targets and taking action. Each workshop is adapted to meet individual requirements of the school. |     |
